Our Story
Read more about our philosophy and regenerative farm plan.
Priya and her husband Michael made their dream come true when they purchased Cascade Valley Heritage Farm in 2018, moving in the day after their wedding. They share a joint vision of raising livestock in an ethical manner that improves the environment.
Growing up with animals, Priya decided to turn her passion into her career, receiving her Bachelor of Science in Animal Science, with a Livestock and Dairy emphasis, and minor in Ruminant Nutrition from the University of California, Davis. She then continued her education by completing her Master's of Agriculture in Integrated Resource Management (sustainable animal agriculture) from Colorado State University. She also worked as a veterinary assistant with more than 10 years experience working in veterinary medical clinics catering to all species.
Through her education, Priya has studied regenerative management practices, and how livestock can be used to help restore and bring biodiversity back to barren landscapes, replenish soil nutrients, and sequester carbon, and she brings this methodology to Cascade Valley Heritage Farm. She currently works at Cal State University, Chico as a lecturer in the College of Agriculture where she teaches animal nutrition and works with the Center for Regenerative Agriculture and Resilient Systems.
Michael works in town as a Registered Nurse, and also has an extensive background in veterinary medicine. Priya and Michael first met working at a veterinary clinic together, and share a passion for animal welfare with high standards of care.
